Informations biographiques

Julien T. Leger, Father of Senator Antoine J. Leger, K.C., Called by Death. Julien T. Leger, former employee of the Canadian National Railways and retired with an Imperial Long Service Medal, and one of the most widely known and most highly revered man in the Memramcook district, died at his home in Memramcook West yesterday morning after an illness of a week. Friends in many parts of the country will learn with sorrow of his death. Mr. Leger was eighty-six years of age. He was born in Memramcook West and lived there all of his life. In his youth he attended St. Joseph's University, then in its infancy. He was a leader in the affairs of the district and for many years was looked to for leadership. His was one of the most interesting families in the district.4

Informations biographiques

At the age of three, Honoré lost his mother; at fourteen, he lost his father. He married Angéline Boudreau at the age of twenty-six and built his home in La Montain in 1897. A hard work, he was a farmer and a mason. Honoré was employed by the Canadian National Railway (Bridge and Building) ntil he was sixty-seven. He liked to sing to his little grandchildren. Honoré had a love of hoses. When going to church, he liked to show off his splendid horses.

Honoré, Maxime, and Patrice acquired the nickname "swiss" from the French word for chipmunk which is actually spelled "suisse". That nickname came from their mother, Justine Gautreau, who was known to be quick and agile. Many of the descendants of the three brothers were called "swiss".

Angéline Boudreau, born in Gayton, was a good homemaker, and she liked to cook. She won prized with the cakes and she baked. Angéline died of a heart attack the very day that her husband retired from the CNR on August 30, 1935.

Honoré a perdu sa mère a trois ans, son père a quatorze ans. Il a épousé à vingt-six ans Angéline Boudreau. Il a construit sa maison a La Montain en 1897. Grand travaillant, ii était cultivateur et maçon. Honoré a travaillé pour le Canadien National (Bridge and Building) jusqu'à l'âge de soixante-sept ans. Il aimait chanter a ses petits-enfants. Honoré aimait beaucoup les chevaux. En allant a la messe. il montrait avec fierté ses beaux chevaux.

Honoré, Maxime et Patrice ont eu le surnom de "swiss" d'après l'écureuil nommé suisse. Ce surnom vient de leur mère, Justine Gautreau, parce qu'elle était agile et rapide dans ses mouvements. Beaucoup des descendants des trois frères ont été appelés "swiss". Angeline Boudreau, née à Gayton, était bonne ménagère et aimait faire la cuisine. Elle a gagné des prix pour ses gâteaux. Angéline est morte d'une crise cardiaque le jour même où son mari a pris sa retraite, soit le 30 août 1935.7

Mérende Léger, fille de Amable Léger et de Françoise Landry, née le 21 mars 1852 et baptisée le 26 mars 1853 en l'église Saint Thomas de Memramcook (NB). Elle fait son entrée en religion le 19 août 1877 à Memramcook et fait sa profession le 27 août 1885 au même endroit. Elle est décédée le 27 avril 1926 à Sherbrooke (QC), les funérailles eurent lieu le 29 avril 1926 en la cathédrale St-Michel de Sherbrooke et l'inhumation au même endroit.
