Adelard 'Ronnie' Leger
of Leominster, formerly of Fitchburg; 83
LEOMINSTER -- Adelard "Ronnie" Leger, 83, of Leominster, and a former longtime resident of Fitchburg, MA, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013, in Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehab Center in Shrewsbury, MA, with his loving family at his side.
He was born on March 31, 1930 in Cocagne, N.B. Canada, the son of Phillip and Aurelie (Goguen) Leger. He lived in Fitchburg, MA, most of his life before moving to Leominster, MA, in 2008. Ronnie worked as a papermaker for James River Paper Co. in Fitchburg, MA for 25 years While working there, he served as their Union President.
Ronnie was also a self employed painter and wallpaperer for over 40 years. He also served in the National Guard of Massachusetts. He was active in researching his family genealogy, reading, and walking the beach in Wells, Maine. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Club in Fitchburg, MA for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette (LeBlanc) Leger of Leominster, MA; two sons, Raymond J. Leger and his wife, Dorothea of Westminster, MA, and John P. Leger and his wife, Anne of Leominster, MA; two daughters, Denise M. Payette of Fitchburg, MA, and Anita M. and her husband, Michael Roberts of Leominster, MA; two brothers, Rene Leger of Fitchburg, MA, and George Leger of Parrish, Florida; three sisters, Juliette Brodeur of Fitchburg, MA, Dorine Couture of Fitchburg, MA, and Sister Anita Leger of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Putnam, CT. He also leaves his grandchildren, Andrew, Scott, Stephanie, Michael, Megan, Lauren, Kathryn, Nicholas, and Adam; and his great-grandchildren, Marc, Aiden, Caleb and Jordan; along with several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Marc Payette, his grandson, Nathan Roberts, and his brothers, Aristide, Alpherie and Joseph Leger.
Ronnie's family would like to extend a special thank you to nursing and hospice staff at the Shrewsbury Nursing Center for their sincere and genuine compassion and care given to Ronnie and his entire family.
LEGER -- The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg, MA. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. the Lavery Chartrand & Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, MA is directing.
