Leon J. Leblanc, 90
Retired insurance agent; lifelong Fitchburg resident
FITCHBURG -- Leon J. Leblanc, 90, of 208 Pratt Road, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 23, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster after an illness.
He was born May 28, 1910, in Fitchburg, the son of Philemon F. and Melina (Richard) Leblanc, and had lived here all his life. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1928.
For 30 years Mr. Leblanc worked as a district insurance agent with the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. before retiring in 1972. Previously, he worked for 14 years as a bookkeeper at the former John P. Squire Co., producer of wholesale meat provisions, once located at 91 Water St.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and a Eucharistic minister to shut-ins for several years. He was also a member of the St. Joseph Club, the Friendship Club and the Retired Insurance Agents Association of Massachusetts, and a life member of the Franco-American Social Club in Fitchburg and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Leominster Aerie 477.
He leaves two daughters, Sister Pauline Leblanc and Sister Linda Leblanc, both with the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fitchburg; a sister, Elsie M. Leger of Fitchburg; nephews and nieces.
His wife, Evelyn (Gautreau) Leblanc, died Feb. 8, 1999.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Edgar Leblanc and Lionel Leblanc.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland St.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St.
