Thomas J. Gould
SOUTH PARIS — Thomas J. Gould, 94, a resident of the Maine Veterans Home since 1997, formerly of 75 State St., Portland and of Westbrook, died Thursday evening, March 1.
He was born Aug. 23, 1906, in Sackville, NB, Canada, a son of Ferdinand and Judith (Melanson) Gould. He received his education in Canadian schools. On May 1, 1933, he married Aurore Legere at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wilton.
He was a handsewer at G. H. Bass in Wilton and moved to Westbrook where he was self-employed for many years as a watch maker. He was a life-member of the VFW and American Legion in Westbrook. His hobbies included playing the viola and working on clocks as well as watches. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle spirit — a true gentleman. He became legally blind in 1985, and missed greatly the love of his life, his wife, following her death on April 27, 1995.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Anne Gould in Dec. of 1964; three brothers, Clifford, Beverly and Ernest; and four sisters, Evelyn Gould, Annie Dupuis, Mary Cormier and Leah Gould.
