LEOMINSTER -- Richard N. Bourgault, 63, of 581 Willard St., a former longtime resident of Pratt Street, Fitchburg, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 27 at the University of Massachusetts Hospital, Worcester.
Mr. Bourgault was born in Fitchburg, Oct. 24, 1942, a son of Aurore (Leger) Bourgault and the late Cleo Bourgault. He had been a former lifetime resident of Fitchburg before moving to Leominster three years ago.
He was a graduate of Fitchburg High School in 1961.
Prior to his retirement in 1999, Mr. Bourgault worked 18 years as the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at the District and Superior Courthouse in Fitchburg, where he was well-known for being an outgoing and friendly gentleman. He was a man of few words but greatly enjoyed being in the company of others at social gatherings. His other work experience includes years served at Pinkerton Security for the General Electric Corporation in Fitchburg. Prior to that he worked as a foreman at the previously known H. Margolin Company in Fitchburg.
He loved being outdoors, and especially enjoyed camping trips with his family, fishing and traveling. His other favorite activities included bowling, watching sports, and golfing as a former member of the Westminster Country Club. He had also served as an umpire for the Fitchburg Men’s Softball League, and had even served for a number of years along the side of his late father who had also umpired the games during his lifetime.
His most recent favorite pastime was sitting on the front porch of his home, accompanied by his beloved family and dog to take in the quiet and beautiful scenery around him.
He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Fitchburg, and formerly of St. Joseph’s Church in Fitchburg. He also served as a member of the St. Joseph’s Club in Fitchburg. He was very proud of the eight years he served as an auxillary police officer in Fitchburg, and was also the named Sergeant during this time.
He was very excited to have recently learned that he would soon be a grandfather. His daughter is expecting her first baby with a due date of March 1, 2007.
Besides his mother of Fitchburg, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margaret A. (Phillips) Bourgault; a son, Matthew R. Bourgault of Fitchburg; a daughter and son in law, Christine M. and Thomas Brearley of Athol; and a sister, Carol Warsheski and her husband Clement “Ski” Warsheski of Fitchburg; and his two nephews, Robert Warsheski of Fitchburg and Scott Warsheski of Rhode Island.
BOURGAULT -- On Aug. 27, Richard N. Bourgault of Leominster died in Worcester. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 81 Sheridan St., Fitchburg. A reception will follow at the St. Joseph’s Club in Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
