Lionel J. Boudreau
FITCHBURG -- Lionel J. Boudreau, 84, of 191 Ellis St., died Tuesday, May 17, in The Highlands Longterm Care Center, after an illness.
He was born in Fitchburg, on Feb. 26, 1921, the son of the late Samuel M. and Permelia (Leger) Boudreau, and lived here all of his life.
Mr. Boudreau was a veteran of World War II, serving as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army. He landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, on June 6, 1944, and was part of the invasion army that liberated Western Europe. Among many military decorations, he was the recipient of the two Silver Star Medals and two Bronze Star Medals. He later served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for 20 years.
He was a pharmacist at the former Dorriens Pharmacy in Cleghorn and former Brooks Drug Store in Fitchburg for 15 years, retiring in 1988. He also served as the director of the Fitchburg Veteran Service for 20 years.
Mr. Boudreau was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Fitchburg, a 1939 graduate of Fitchburg High School and was a 1949 graduate of the Boston School of Pharmacy. He also attended Mt. Wachusett Community College during his later years. He spent many years volunteering for numerous organizations, but primarily he assisted at The Highlands Longterm Care Center in the Adult Care Program for 20 years. He was a member of the V.F.W., Cleghorn Post and was active in Legion baseball for many years.
He leaves two sons, Peter J. Boudreau of Fitchburg and Kent M. Boudreau and his wife, Marie, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Jan M. Dempsey and her husband, Don, of Westford; one brother, Robert Boudreau of Pineville, La.; two sisters, Margaret Boudreau of Fitchburg and Theresa Czaplicki of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His wife of 38 years, Gladys M. (Rahmberg) Boudreau, died in October of 1989. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Albert and Alban Boudreau, both of Fitchburg.
BOUDREAU -- On May 17, Lionel J. Boudreau, 84, of Fitchburg. A full military funeral will be held Monday, May 23, from the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, (www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net) 129 Elm St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, May 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Highlands Adult Care Center, 335 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420; or to the Mt. Wachusett Community College Alumni Fund, 444 Green St., Gardner, MA 01440, or may be left at the funeral home.
