Alcide J. Breau
FITCHBURG -- Alcide J. Breau, 71, of 71 Hurd St., died Saturday, Sept. 24, in The Highlands, after an illness.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1933, in Moncton, New Brunswick, the son of the late Alfred and Lucy (Melanson) Breau. Mr. Breau moved to the United States in 1957.
He worked for Independent Lock Company and later retired from St. Joseph Cemetery as Superintendent after working there for 20 years.
An active athlete, Mr. Breau was a goalie for the Eastern Beaver Hockey team in Moncton, New Brunswick. He also played on several softball and bowling teams in Fitchburg. He enjoyed all sports, the outdoors, working in his yard and going to the beach but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the St. Joseph Club.
Mr. Breau leaves his wife, Geneva (LeBlanc) Breau, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 8; his four sons, George Breau and his wife Brenda, Roger Breau and his wife Lisa, Robert Breau, and Gerald Breau and his wife Rhonda, all of Fitchburg; his three brothers, Henry Breau of Niceville, FL, Paul Breau and Raymond Breau, both of Moncton, New Brunswick; his sister, Viola Leger of Moncton, New Brunswick; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Bryan, Chelsea, Lindsey, Brandon, and Julie Breau; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald Breau, Roy Breau, and Alfred Breau, and his sister, Florine Erman.
BREAU -- On Sept. 24, Alcide J. Breau, 71, of Fitchburg. The funeral will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28, from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
