Frederick Jones Sr.
FITCHBURG -- Frederick E. Jones Sr., 75, of 20 Merle St., formerly of 350 Water St., died Monday, March 6, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, after a brief illness.
He was born in Concord on Jan. 27, 1931, the son of the late Leon and Lelia (Page) Jones, and lived here most of his life.
Mr. Jones was an auto mechanic at several local auto dealerships in the area for many years. He also owned Fred’s Sharpening Service on Boutelle Street for many years.
He was a member of the Amvets Post No.29, where he had served as Commander three times and had served as it’s State Provost Marshall and State Inspector General. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 193. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish in Fitchburg.
Mr. Jones was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy, as a Fireman’s Apprentice.
He leaves three sons, Frederick E. Jones Jr. of Fitchburg, Michael Jones of New Hampshire, and Dennis Jones of Los Angeles, Calif.; six daughters, Sheila Soubie of Fitchburg, Mary Levesque of Oxford, Marianne Ellia and Barbara Baldarelli of Fitchburg, Carol A. Curtis of Winchendon and Dorrie Leger of Westminster; one brother, Ronald Jones of Maynard; 18 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; nieces and nephews. His wife of 32 years, Barbara Ann (Foley) Jones, died in March of 2002.
JONES -- On March 6, Frederick E. Jones Sr., 75, of Fitchburg. A military funeral will be held Wednesday, March 8, from Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, (www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net) 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, 228 Water St., Fitchburg. Calling hours are Wednesday, March 8 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Massachusetts, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451; or may be left at the funeral home.
