FITCHBURG -- Francis J. Delphia Sr., 74, of Fitchburg, died on Friday evening, Oct. 26, in his home, surrounded by his wife and family.
He was born on July 16, 1933, in Fitchburg, the son of Russell and Dora (Cormier) Delphia. He lived here in Fitchburg all of his life. He worked as a manager at the former Fitchburg Woolen Mills for 22 years and then was a custodian at St. Bernard’s High School for 10 years, retiring several years ago. He was a member of the Retired Men’s Club of Fitchburg and was a Notary Public in Fitchburg for many years. He most enjoyed taking long walks throughout the city of Fitchburg. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Gloria M. (Cote) Delphia; two sons, Francis J. Delphia Jr. in New Hampshire and Kevin L. Delphia of Leominster; one daughter, Deborah Catterton of Fitchburg; one sister, Pauline Leger of Lunenburg; three grandchildren, Jeremy Hastings, Erick Catterton and Jillian Delphia; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Hastings and Colby Catterton; along with several nephews and nieces. He also leaves his pal, Midnight the cat. He was predeceased by his brothers, Francis and Kenneth Delphia.
DELPHIA -- A graveside service and interment will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, in St. Bernard’s Cemetery at 11a.m. There are no calling hours. In his memory, donations may be made to The Lupus Foundation, C/O Brigham & Women’s Hospital, 72 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02115. The Lavery Chartrand & Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, is assisting the family with arrangements.
