ST. ANNE, New Brunswick, Canada -- Ernest J. Blanchard, 91, formerly of 326 Water St., Leominster, Mass., died Friday, June 11, in St. Anne Hospital, after an illness.
Mr. Blanchard was born May 6, 1913, in Tracadie, New Brunswick, the son of the late Sylvain and Emilie (St. Pierre) Blanchard. He lived in Leominster from 1951 until 1978 when he moved back to New Brunswick, finally settling in St. Antoine. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years and was a member of the Local Carpenters Union for more than 50 years.
Mr. Blanchard was an avid card player. He enjoyed dancing and tending to his garden. He was a member of St. Cecilia’s Church and also St. Antonie Church in New Brunswick.
Mr. Blanchard leaves a son, Victor, and his wife, Darlene, of Leominster; a daughter, Janet T. Coleman, and her husband, Philip, of Lancaster; a sister, Irene Gauvin, and her husband, Emile, of South Yarmouth; four grandchildren, Brian Blanchard, Rebecca Carter, Christine Coleman and Karen Coleman; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Aubrey Carter; his caregiver, Raymond Blanchard of Richibucto, New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews. His wife of 32 years, Rita (Cormier) Blanchard, died in 1977. He was predeceased by a son, Oscar Blanchard; six brothers, Agapit, Camille, Hilaire, Sylvain, Jean-Baptist and Albert Blanchard; and four sisters, Argentina Fontaine, Rita Leger, Yvonne Melanson and Lorette Blanchard.
