STERLING -- Bernice Rose (Cormier) Gaudet, 93, of Leominster, died peacefully on January 9, 2012, at the Sterling Village Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada, on March 7, 1918, the 7th daughter of Tilman and Mary (Leger) Cormier. In 1919, the family settled in Fitchburg, MA. She worked for many years stitching for Margolin Pocketbooks, Comfort Slipper, and Totsy Doll Clothes.
She and her husband of 60 years, Bill "Willie" Gaudet, who passed away November 6, 1999, enjoyed many years of going to yard sales and flea markets. She also enjoyed reading and attending family gatherings.
She is survived by her son, Bill Gaudet and his wife, Becky (McAllister) of Leominster; and her daughter, Carolyn Whitney and her husband, Allan; also of Leominster. She also leaves two grandsons, Brian Whitney and his wife, Ada of Leominster, and Michael Gaudet and his partner, Laura Thoman, also of Leominster; as well as one granddaughter, Christine (Whitney) Babineau and her husband, Steve of Lunenburg. She is also survived by three great-grandsons, Eric Whitney and Matt Whitney of Leominster, and Alex Babineau of Lunenburg; and two great-granddaughters, Brianna Babineau of Lunenburg and Madison Whitney of Leominster; as well as a step-great-grandson, Jeremy Babineau and his wife, Olga of Cape Cod, MA.
Also, surviving are two sisters, Margaret Cormier of Fitchburg who turned 100 in May 2011, and Louise Richards of Gardner. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Clifford, Camille, Albert and Arthur Cormier, and six sisters, Nellie Boudreau, Minnie Allain, Leona Cormier, Bella Butler, Emma St. John, and Emelia Fontaine.
GAUDET -- A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster with a mass at 11 am in St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster. Burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Leominster. A calling hour will be held on Friday prior to the mass from 9:30 -10:30 am in the funeral home.
