Donald J. Leger
of Leominster, was carpenter; 76
LEOMINSTER -- Donald Joseph Leger, 76, of Leominster, died on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center, Lake Avenue North, in Worcester.
Donald was born on May 23, 1935 in St. Antoine, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Edmond and Exelda (LeBlanc) Leger. He was raised and educated in New Brunswick, and has been a resident of Leominster since moving to the United States in 1961.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, Camilla R. (Boudreau) Leger; his daughter, Donna McCaffrey; his son, Mark Leger and his wife, Cheryl; three grandchildren, Kristen McCaffrey, Kyle Leger, and Caden Leger; two brothers, Yvon Leger and his wife, Hermine, Fred Legere, all of Leominster; two sisters, Noella Roy and her husband, Paul of Canada, Emerise Girouard and her husband,, Fernand of Canada; also many nieces and nephews.
Donald was predeceased by three brothers, Eloi Legere, Malcolm Leger, Aurele Legere; and by four sisters, Bertha Goguen, Doris Leger, Lorraine Leger, and Aldea LeBlanc.
Mr. Leger was a self-employed carpenter for many years in Leominster, and more recently worked for the former Plastican Company in the maintenance department for nearly 15 years.
Donald was a very hard worker all of his life, and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins, and going to Bingo.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
LEGER -- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster. Burial will follow at St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Leominster. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Simard Funeral Home, 14 Walker Street, Leominster.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in his memory to St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic Street, Leominster, MA 01453 or to a charity of one's choice .
The Leger family would like to thank Dr. Donald Baril and the 3ICU staff of doctors and nurses of UMass University Campus for the care, compassion and understanding they gave to Donald during a difficult time.
