The death of Joseph Pierre Gallant of 26 Pleasant Street, Moncton occurred Thursday at the Dr. Georges Dumont Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 80. Born in St. Philippe, he was the son of the late Eustache and Maria (Poirier) Gallant. He was a retired employee of the Canadian National Railway car shop where he had worked for 14 years. He attended the Assumption Cathedral. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith (Saulnier) Gallant; seven daughters, Mrs. Emery LeBlanc (Marie), Moncton; Mrs. Alphonse Gaudet (Dora) and Mrs. Alyre Caissie (Jeannette) St. Philippe; Mrs. Lionel Leger (Rita), Notre Dame; Mrs. Gerard Robichaud (Theresa), Dieppe; Mrs. Alphe LeBlanc, (Gloria), Toronto, and Mrs. Ernest Melanson (Corinne), New Hampshire; five sons, Edouard, Montreal; Fred, Saint John; Arthur, Dieppe; Gerard, Havelock, Ont.; and Hector, Toronto; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Gallant and Delina Gallant, both of Saint Philippe, and 14 grandchildren. The body is resting at Frenette's Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, with the funeral service to be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Assumption Cathedral. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery.
