Edgar Joseph Allen Hebert (1922-2009) REXTON, NB -
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edgar Hebert. Loving husband, father, grand-father, great grand-father and friend to many. Edgar was born and raised in Rexton, NB to the late Fred and Cecile (Vautour) Hebert. Edgar leaves to morn his wife of 62 years Marie (Arsenault) Hebert, two daughters; Eileen Leger (Bob Bourgeois) of Riverview, Cathy McDermid (Lyle) of Spruce Grove, Alberta, five sons; Gordon (Carolyn), Wayne (Simone), both of Jardineville, Harvey (Jill), Timmy (Donna), both of Rexton, and Myles (Cathy) of Halifax. Edgar will also be sadly missed by his 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, daughter-in-law June (Edmonton, Alberta), brother Jim of Rexton and many friends. Besides his parents, Edgar was predeceased by an infant daughter Mae, his sister Marie-Mae, and his brother Edmond. Edgar was a good worker and even at a young age worked to help support his parents as well as two younger brothers. Holding many jobs, Edgar made his way to Toronto and worked building the Toronto subway. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and joined the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada Regiment of Niagara Falls. Edgar witnessed many hardships in the next few years having served over seas, ending with a tour of Holland. After returning in 1946, Edgar met Marie and a new chapter of his life began. Edgar and Marie made their home in Rexton and are proud parents of five sons and two daughters. Edgar worked for the Department of Transportation as a worker and supervisor of the Bridge Crew in Rexton for almost thirty years. After retirement, Edgar and Marie bought a winter home in Boyton Beach, Florida, where they wintered for over 15 years. They also traveled extensively, not only all over Canada and the United States, but also the Panama Canal, Bahamas, Alaska and Holland. Edgar enjoyed fishing, hunting and sports. Early on, he coached hockey and could always be seen either at the outdoor rink in Rexton, or the arena in Richibucto. There was never a night that Edgar wasn't watching sports on TV, and also listening to another game on the radio. He enjoyed curling and was a past member of the Rexton Curling Club. He was also an avid golfer and during summer could be seen at the Bouctouche Golf Club where he was a member. No matter where he traveled, he would find time for golf. Edgar will always be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends, as well as being the greatest story teller in the world, as he could entertain for hours with one story after another.
