Leo Downing, 79, of Moncton, passed away on March 17, 2003 at his residence. Born in Cassie Cape, NB he was the son of the late Philip Jr. Downing and the late Premilia (née: Gallant) Downing. He was retired owner/operator of Downing's Beach, Leo's Service Centre and Leo's Hall in Cassie Cape, former auxiliary RCMP from 19631979, member of the Irish Cultural Association, a WWII veteran (army), active member of Legion Branch # 6, and a parishioner of St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Downing is survived by his wife, Marguerite "Marg" (née: Gautreau); two daughters, Lorraine and Gloria, both of Moncton; four sisters, Lina Poirier of Shirley, Mass, Edna (Armand) Poirier of Shediac Bridge, Laudia (Emery) Leger of Cassie Cape and Alice (LéoPaul) Gagnon of Cap-Pelé; two brothers, Alcide (Jeanne) of Grand-Digue and Ovila (Thérèse) of Gardner, Mass; one aunt, Yvonne Babineau of Shediac Bridge; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Lorette; and by one brother, Telex. Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church on Monday, March 24, 2003 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or the Legion Branch # 6 (Nov. 11th Fund) would be appreciated by the family.
