AMHERST, NS - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Leonard Joseph Dolan at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst, N.S. on June 8, 2005. He was the son of the late Frank and Ellen (Desmond) Dolan of Miramichi, N.B. He received his early education in Miramichi, graduating from St.Thomas High School, and attended St. Thomas University. He graduated from The Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph , Ontario in 1950. He practiced veterinary medicine in Port Elgin, N.B., Sydney, N.S., Truro, N.S. and eventually opened his clinic in Amherst and practiced medicine there for many years. He also opened the Bushville Animal Clinic in the Miramichi. He sold these clinics and retired in Amherst in February, 1992. He was a life member of the N.S. Veterinary Assoc., a member of the Liberal Assoc. of N.S., Saint Charles Roman Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the N.S. Agriculture Assoc. Leonard is survived by his wife, the former Geralda Flannery; his sons, Daniel (Debbie), Woodstock, N.B., Stephen (Brenda) and Micheal both of Halifax; daughters, Coreen Dolan (Ray Bosomworth), United Arab Emirates, Irene Legere (Larry), Amherst, Marie Dolan, Halifax and Ruth Dekker (Ron), Chatham, Ont.; grandchildren, Lynn Bosomworth, Mark, Lauren, Allison, Conor, Quinn & Nathan Dolan, Samantha & Andrew Legere and Erin, Owen and Morgan Dekker; great grandchildren, Darci, Brady and Casey Dolan; a brother, Dr. Frank Dolan, Rodney, Ont.; sisters, Mary MacBride, Winnipeg, Alice Lyieh, Dorothy McCarthy, Laurdes Connell and Betty Clany all of Miramichi and Louise Weistiuk, Edmonton, AB. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Dr. Desmond Dolan and James Dolan and sisters, Cecilia Lardon and Theresa Dolan. Leonard's remains are resting at Furlong's Funeral Home in Amherst today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. His funeral mass will be held at Nativity of Our Lady Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 10 a.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the M.S.
