1919 - 2004
The death of Joseph (Joe) Richard, 84 years, of Elmwood Drive, Moncton occurred at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 following a short illness. Born in Leger Corner, now known as Dieppe, on June 5, 1919 he was the son of the late Amedee and Marie-Blanche (Hebert) Richard. Joe had attended Notre Dame de la Paix Roman Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas from 1940 to 1945 with the 14th Field Ambulance. After returning home in 1945, he resided in Moncton until 1948 where he was employed as a barber for a short time and as a carpenter. He moved to the USA in 1948 where he was a carpenter until his retirement in 1998 after which he returned to Moncton where he resided until his death. He will be sadly missed by many that loved and appreciated him, he was a very special brother and uncle, and is survived by his sisters, Emma, of Moncton, Sara (Gerry) Leger of Waltham, Mass., Florida (Edward) Saulnier of Moncton; one brother, Gerald (Lina) Richard also of Moncton and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Marie-Blanche (Hebert) in 1969; his father Amedee in 1966; several sisters and brothers, Amedee who died as an infant; Lida who died at age 15; Helen who died at age 4; Emila (Hector) Cormier, Adele (Emery) Leger and Pierre (Melendee) Richard. By personal request there will not be any visiting hours at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Notre Dame de la Paix Church,Vail Street on Saturday, January 24 at 10:00 am.
