BURKE, J. Elmo -
82, Amherst, Cumberland County, died October 9, 1992, in Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Jude and Amanda (Legere) Burke. He and his brothers owned and operated Burke Bros. Garage, Crescent Avenue, Amherst until his recent retirement. He was chief petty officer of the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Amherst, Branch No. 10. He was also a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Amherst. He is survived by a daughter, Robin (Mrs. Stephen Fage), Hastings, Cumberland County; son, Barry, Fredericton, N.B.; sister, Edith, Amherst; five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Juliette Wilson; three brothers, Leon (Pinkie), Leo, Arthur. The body is in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst, visiting 7-9 p.m. Sunday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Monday, where a legion service will be 7 p.m. Monday. Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery. Donations may be made to any charity.
