LEOMINSTER -- Denis J. Albert, 87, of 40 Forrest Road, formerly of 60 Spring St., Leominster, died at HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, on Thursday, May 31, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 4, 1919, in St. Paul, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Henri and Leonie (LeBlanc) Albert.
Mr. Albert, a highly respected craftsman, was a well-known builder of many fine homes in the Leominster and Fitchburg area, operating as Denis J. Albert & Sons, Inc.
He was a member of St. Cecilia’s Parish, St. Jean Baptiste Fraternal Club, Sacred Heart League and Assumption Club.
In his retirement, he summered in Grande Digue, New Brunswick, Canada, maintaining his connection to his French Canadian roots. In recent years he wintered in Holiday, Fla. The consummate "visitor," he would travel great distances just to say hello to friends and relatives. Always ready for cards, he played countless games of cribbage, usually ending largely in his favor. He was passionate about family gatherings, like in the "old days," ever zealous in his love of family and of "La Musique Acadienne," especially that of his fiddle-playing brother, Victor. To all who knew him well, there is no doubt that he truly lived by his oft-repeated motto of "Worry Pas." To Denis, there were no strangers in life, just people he had not yet met.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Clara (Robichaud) Richard; his five daughters, Denise J. Henri and her husband, Roger, Jeanne L. Doucette and her husband, Francis, Susan M. Derr and her husband, Terry, all of Leominster, Muriel A. Morse and her husband, John of Poquoson, Va., and Rose Orr and her husband, Kevin of Evans, Ga.; two sons, Ronald H. Albert and his wife, Donna of Haverhill, and Marc F. Albert and his wife, Heidi of Leominster; two sisters, Marie Cormier and her husband, Desire of Ashby; Anita Leger and her late husband, Leo of Mustang, Okla.; two brothers, the Rev. Alban Albert of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada and Victor Albert and his wife, Lena of Leominster; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; his step-children Angenette (Richard) Roy and her husband, Louis, Jean Paul Richard and his wife, Donna of Leominster, and their families.
Mr. Albert was predeceased by his son, Daniel G. Albert in 1989. He was predeceased by his wife of 21 years, Dorice (Robichaud). His first wife of 19 years, Aline Belliveau, and mother of their eight children, died in 1965.
Denis was a loving father and grandfather, the center of our family. He leaves us with many wonderful memories and will be greatly missed.
