LEBLANC, JOSEPH GERARD (GERRY) -
Joseph Gerard LeBlanc (Gerry), of 11 Sherwood Dr. Saint John, formerly of Clark St. Fredericton, passed away on Friday Nov. 28, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in St. Paul, Kent County, Dec. 9, 1910. The son of the late Fidel & Arzelie LeBlanc (Leger). Gerry graduated from College Sainte Anne, Church Point, NS in 1933 with a B.A. He worked for Denis Construction & Moncton Home Hardware. Moved to Fredericton, 1942 to work as Assistant Registrar of Vital Statistics. Gerry was a Captain in the Army Reserves for many years. He graduated from McGill University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Social Work. He was a former Director of Child Welfare, former Deputy Minister of Welfare 1965-1968, founding member of the Richelieu Club in Fredericton, helped lay the ground work for Le Centre Communitaire St. Anne, organiser of the Civil Service Association, president of St. Anthony's Parish council and was a member of Civil Defence Canada. He retired from the civil service as Registrar General of Vital Statistics. He loved to sing and had the Choir at St. Dunstan's church for over 20 years, was a member of the choirs in the Moncton Cathedral, St. Theresa's and St. Anthony's parish. Gerry is survived by his daughter Murielle (Murt) O'Leary (Paul) Saint John, his son Eric LeBlanc ( Karen) of Fredericton, his grandchildren Renee, Monique and Ryan O'Leary all of Saint John. His step-grandchildren Daniel and Patrick Gallagher, sisters Florine Chenard, Rita Blanchard, sisters-in-law Lil Duguay of Trenton NS, Connie LeBlanc of Moncton, brothers-in-law Leandre Caissie of Shediac, Dr. LeoPaul Leger of Tracadie. He was predeceased by his wife Inez (Duguay) LeBlanc, brothers Anselme, Laurie, sisters Yvonne LeBlanc, Lorraine Leger, Juliette LeBlanc and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton North, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday December 1, 2003 at 11am from St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be held in the St. Anthony's Cemetery.
