Olive R. Legere
former owner of Sanford businesses
SPRINGVALE - Olive R. Legere, 86, of Beaver Hill Road, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at the Newton Center in Sanford after a brief illness.
She was born in Douglas Hill on April 18, 1914, a daughter of Lewis A. and Maude (Merrifield) Dolloff.
She was a graduate and salutatorian of the former Potter Academy in Sebago.
She was employed as a waitress at the former Capitol Restaurant in Sanford for several years. She and her husband, Lorenzo J. Legere, owned and operated Legere's Bakery and the Firestone Store in Sanford. He died in 1985. She retired several years ago from Hillcrest Manor where she had worked as a nurse's aid.
She was a member of the Emblem Club in Sanford. Her interests included music, dancing, reading, and writing poetry. Family members said she especially loved her family and friends, and was always ready with the latest joke to tell.
Survivors include her son, Ronald "Bud" Legere of Sanford; four daughters, Connie Day of Wells, Shirley Quimby of Sanford, Joanne Vail of Hollis, N.H. and Rebecca Marston of Springvale; two sisters, Dolly Lord and Beulah Osgood, both of Bridgton; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
