William Michael McKendrick
MIRAMICHI, NB - William Michael McKendrick passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Sunday, November 13, 2005 after a brief illness. He was 86.
Born in Chatham, N.B. in 1919, he was the son of the John and Kathleen (Reynolds) McKendrick.
Bill was a Veteran of the Second World War. He was a member of the 7th Anti-Tank Regiment, 1st. Canadian Division. He served overseas for 5 years in England, Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. He was a 50 year Legion member.
After the war, Bill worked for 39 years; first as a firefighter at CFB Renous and later as an Electrician at CFB Chatham. Bill had an Electrical Contracting business for many years in the Town of Chatham. He also did maintenance at St. Michael's Church, Lord Beaverbrook Arena and the Saint Michael's Bowling Lanes.
In his early years, Bill loved boating and fly-fishing. In his later years, he enjoyed going to his camp on the Dungarvon River where he loved to cook for the boys. He will be greatly missed by Rita (Aube), his wife of 53 years; sons, John (Juanita), his wife of 53 years; sons, John (Juanita), Michael (Marie-France) and Paul; daughters, Eileen (Scott) Murphy, Louise (Blair) Tetreault and Kay Munn; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Bobby; brothers, Raymond and Clair; sisters, Annie (Nick) Ivory and Mary.
The family would like to thank Veterans Affairs Canada for all their support for Bill in his last years. Because of them, he was able to stay in his home until his last brief illness.
Arrangements are under the care of Maher's Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at St. Michael's Basilica at 11:00 am.
