LIVERMORE FALLS — Anita M. Legere, 88, a longtime resident of Jay, died Wednesday, Jan. 31 at Parkview Nursing Home where she had been a patient since Jan. 10.
She was born in Jay on Feb. 21, 1912, the daughter of Emilien and Marguerite Poirier Richard. She attended the schools of Livermore Falls and graduated from Livermore Falls High School, class of 1930. On Oct. 20, 1940, she married Alfred J. Legere Sr. at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. They made their home in Riley for 50 years until moving to Lavoie Street in 1990.
She enjoyed being a homemaker all of her life and taking care of her family. She and her husband had celebrated 60 years of marriage this past October. She also had worked for a time at the Livermore Shoe Co. in Livermore Falls.
She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, and a member of the Livermore Falls and Jay Senior Citizens. She was an avid bowler who belonged to the VFW Bowling League, the VFW Couples League and the Senior Citizens Bowling League.
She is survived by her husband of Jay; a son, Alfred Jr. and his wife Donna of Statesville, N.C.; two daughters, Rosemarie Labbe of South Portland, and Marguerite “Peggy” Tibbetts McDonald and her husband Earl of Jay; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Helen Tibbetts McDonald; and a grandson, Randy McDonald.
