Avant sa retraite, Donald a travaillé comme préposé à l'entretien des signaux au CN pendant 35 ans. Il était un fier membre du 3e degré des Chevaliers de Colomb, conseil Notre-Dame-de-Grâce no 6468.

Donald était un véritable gentleman, connu de tous pour sa nature douce, sa présence calme et son esprit tendre. Il avait un mot gentil pour tout le monde et sa chaleur a laissé une impression durable sur ceux qui l'ont connu. Il aimait danser, jouer aux fléchettes et au billard, et vivait pleinement sa vie. Exceptionnellement intelligent et curieux, il essayait toujours de comprendre comment les choses fonctionnaient et abordait la vie avec réflexion et perspicacité.3
