    Mrs. Delphine Cormier
    The death of Mrs. Marie Delphine Cormier, who had been a resident of Amherst for over sixty years, occurred this morning at her home Chignecto Street, Although the deceased had been an invalid for seven years, she had only been seriously ill for the past week. Her keen mind and pleasant disposition was the delight of her family and friends. She kept in touch with local and world events and was a good conversationalist. She was the last member of a large family, daughter of the late Madeline and Maximin Legere of Memramcook, and was a devote member of the St. Charles R.C. Church. She was 85 years of age. The late Mrs. Cormier is survived by four sons, Capt. Nelson of Halifax; Frank in Amherst; Andy of Norwood, Mass., and Willis at home; also five grandchildren. Her husband William Cormier, predeceased her five years ago. The remains are resting at the home of her son, Frank Cormier, 97 Church Street. The funeral, with Requiem High Mass will be held from St Charles R.C. Church Monday morning at 9 o'clock.

    Ronald J Leger. - Amherst - The death of Ronald Joseph Leger of 7 Westminister Ave., Amherst, occurred at the Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst Friday, Jan. 6 1989. He was 56. Born in Little Cape, N.B., he was a son of the late J. Remond and Lucy (Jacob) Leger. He was employed as a storekeeper at Robb Engineering Works for more than 30 Years. He was a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Mattattall; two daughters, Donna (Mrs. Garry Cossette) of Dartmouth; and Janice (Mrs. Derek MacKendrick) of Lower Sackville; three sisters: Theresa (Mrs. Robert Burns) Roberta (Mrs. Mark Corbett) and Rosella (Mrs. Gordon Edgett), all of Amherst; three brothers, Lorenzo and Henry, Moncton; Paul, Chelmsford, Mass.; two grandchildren. Funeral was held Monday in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Rev. David MacDonald officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the neonatal unit of the Grace Maternity Hospital or the Izaak Walton Killam Children's Hospital, Halifax.

    Ronald J Leger. - Amherst - The death of Ronald Joseph Leger of 7 Westminister Ave., Amherst, occurred at the Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst Friday, Jan. 6 1989. He was 56. Born in Little Cape, N.B., he was a son of the late J. Remond and Lucy (Jacob) Leger. He was employed as a storekeeper at Robb Engineering Works for more than 30 Years. He was a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Mattattall; two daughters, Donna (Mrs. Garry Cossette) of Dartmouth; and Janice (Mrs. Derek MacKendrick) of Lower Sackville; three sisters: Theresa (Mrs. Robert Burns) Roberta (Mrs. Mark Corbett) and Rosella (Mrs. Gordon Edgett), all of Amherst; three brothers, Lorenzo and Henry, Moncton; Paul, Chelmsford, Mass.; two grandchildren. Funeral was held Monday in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Rev. David MacDonald officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the neonatal unit of the Grace Maternity Hospital or the Izaak Walton Killam Children's Hospital, Halifax.

Born in Shediac, N.B., he was a son of the late Jude and Amanda (Legere) Burke. He was a mechanic with the former Jack Smith Garage prior to 1946, at which time he and his brothers, Arthur and Elmo, owned and operated Burke Bros. Garage on Cresent Street until 1960. From 1960 to 1962 he was engaged as foreman with Rivers and Dickenson Ltd. He then became employed with the Dominion experimental farm in Nappan up until his retirement in 1973. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Nativity of Our Lady Roman Catholic Church. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Juliette Wilson, and a brother, Leon "Pickie". He is survived by his wife, the former Effie Lorimer; a daughter, Joan (Mrs. Seymore Zidle) of Winnipeg, Man., a son, Harold of Amherst; a sister. Edith Burke of Amherst; two brothers, Elmo and Arthur, both of Amherst; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His remains rested at Furlong's Funeral Home Amherst, where visitation hours were held Saturday and Sunday. Prayers were held at the funeral home Sunday evening. The funeral mass will be held today at 10 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lady Roman Catholic Church, conducted by Ft. David MacDonald. Spring burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.

    Amherst - The death of Vernon Lawrence Hurley, of 9 Admore Ave., Amherst, occurred suddenly Saturday, March 25, 1989, at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow following an industrial accident. He was 53. Born in Port Elgin, N.B., he was a son of Mrs. Margaret (Legere) Hurley of Amherst and the late John Hurley. He worked as an ironworker with Robb Engineering in Amherst for 32 years; was a member of the Ironworkers of America, Local 752; the Amherst Wildlife Association; and as a sports enthusiast he played hockey for serveral years and was a strong supporter of the Amherst Junior Ramblers. Besides his mother, he is survived by his second wife, the former Sharon McManaman; three daughters, Sherry (Mrs. Russel Rector), Kimberly (Mrs. Rod MacDonald), and Betty Hurley, all of Amherst; two step-daughters, Tammy and Holly, both at Home; a sister Pauline (Mrs. Jack McDermott) of Scarborough, Ont.; six brothers, Richard of Fort lawrence, Rod and Wayne, both of Amherst, Eric of Tatamagouch, David of Eastern Passage, and three grandchildren. Besides his father he was predeceased by his first wife, the former Jean Harroun in 1976 and a brother Larry in 1946.
