Informations biographiques
On ne connaît très peu de la vie du pionnier de cette famille à Caraquet. Son acte de mariage avec Jeanne Albert n'est pas dans les registres de Caraquet, et rien n'est connu sur son origine. Il se serait marié en premières noes vers 1785, puis en secondes noces à Caraquet en 1811 avec Adélàïde Hébert de Bonaventure, soeur de l'épouse de Nicolas Cormier de Caraquet. Malheureusement, l'acte de son second mariage nous dit rien de ses parents.
Jean Lacroix se logea à Caraquet sur la terre de son beau-père, là où demeure aujourd'hui Henri Mourant. Il dut arriver peu de temps après la grande concession de 1784, et la première mention de lui dans les registres paroissiaux date du 28 juin 1789, où il fit baptiser son fils, Ambroise.
