Informations biographiques

Après des études au Couvent de Bouctouche, Juliette a reçu son diplôme de l’École normale de Fredericton en 1926. Elle a enseigné à l’École du vieux chemin de Shédiac pendant quatre mois, après quoi elle passa 10 ans chez Eaton’s, comme traductrice. Elle a mis sur pied la première maternelle à Shédiac, de 1952 à 1958. Elle a été enseignante au District scolaire no 13, de 1958 à 1972, aux écoles Saint-Coeur-de-Marie, Saint-Joseph et Centrale de Shédiac.

Elle a été membre de la Ligue des femmes catholiques, des Lionettes, des Dames d’Acadie, du Club de l’âge d’or Silver Sands du Cap de Shédiac, du Club français des aînés de Shédiac, de la Société historique acadienne et de la Société historique de la Mer Rouge. Le 28 septembre 2006, la Société des enseignantes et des enseignants retraités francophones de N.-B. lui a offert un certificat soulignant le 80e anniversaire de son entrée dans la profession enseignante. || Juliette attended the Bouctouche Convent and graduated in 1926 with a teaching degree from Normal School in Fredericton and taught at the Old Shediac Road School for four months. Soon after, she went to work as a translator at Eaton's for 10 years. Juliette established the first kindergarden in Shediac 1952 to 1958. She was a teacher with School District 13 from 1958 to 1972 at St. Coeur-de-Marie, St. Joseph and Central Schools in Shediac. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League, the Lionettes, les Dames d'Acadie, the Shediac Cape Silver Sands Golden Age Club, The Senior Citizens Francophone Club, the Acadian Historical Society, and the Historical Society of the Red Sea. On September 28, 2006, a certificate was given to her from the Francophone Teachers and Retired Teachers of New Brunswick Society to celebrate the 80th anviversary of her graduation from Normal School.1

Né le 24 janvier 1939 à Moncton; fils d'Alfred-E. Léger et de Juliette Cormier. Études: Université St-Joseph, Séminaire de Philosophie de Montréal et au Séminaire St-C. de Marie, Halifax. Ordination: le 8 juin 1963 à Shédiac par Mgr Norbert Robichaud. Ministère: vicaire: Christ-Roi, 1963-1966; Cap-Pelé, 1966-1967; Cap-Pelé, 1968-1969; Bouctouche, 1971-1972; curé: Pointe-du-Chêne, 1973-1978; Shemogue, 1981; Sackville et Dorchester, 1986. Le père Maurice Léger était professeur à l'école L.-J. Robichaud de Shédiac et aumônier à la polyvalente Clément-Cormier de Bouctouche entre 1969-1971. Il fut aussi administrateur de Pointe-du-Chêne en 1972-1973 et à Pointe Sapin en 1973. Il fut également directeur du conseil acadien de coopération culturelle de 1978 à 1981. En 1994, il demeurait à Shédiac, NB. [CMA, '94].

Le père Maurice est né à Moncton le 24 janvier 1939 et a été ordonné prêtre à Shédiac le 8 juin 1963. Lors de son décès, il était prêtre de l’Unité pastorale Providence, qui comprend les paroisses de Shédiac, Grande-Digue, Scoudouc, Pointe-du-Chêne, ainsi que la mission de Saint-Philippe dans l’archidiocèse de Moncton. Pendant ses 45 années de prêtrise, il a été vicaire, curé et ensuite modérateur dans de nombreuses paroisses du sud-est du Nouveau-Brunswick (Barachois, Bouctouche, Cap-Pelé, Cocagne, Dorchester, Haute-Aboujagane, Moncton, Notre-Dame, Pointe-Sapin, Richibouctou, Sackville, Saint-Antoine et Shemogue). Il a été membre fondateur et militant au sein du comité diocésain de la femme en Église. Par ailleurs, il a été chargé de cours sur l’Église en Acadie et les grandes religions chrétiennes au Canada à l’Université de Moncton et à Mount Allison Univeristy. Il a été également responsable du Tribunal matrimonial diocésain.

Ouvert sur le monde, collectionneur enthousiaste et passionné d’histoire, le père Maurice a travaillé ardemment à la promotion de la culture acadienne et à la sauvegarde de son patrimoine. En plus d’avoir été membre à vie de huit sociétés historiques, il a été membre fondateur de la Société historique de la mer Rouge, président de la Société historique acadienne, directeur du Conseil acadien de coopération culturelle et coordonnateur de la programmation à la Société culturelle Sudacadie. Le père Maurice a joué aussi un rôle de premier plan dans la sauvegarde du patrimoine acadien, dont notamment: l’Église historique de Barachois, l’école de Cormier-Village, la maison Pascal-Poirier, la gare de Shédiac et le Monument-Lefebvre de Memramcook. Il a d’ailleurs publié, en décembre 2008, un essai personnel: Le Patrimoine religieux acadien. Il a été également l’auteur d’un livre sur le père Edgar T. LeBlanc, coauteur du livre Shédiac - Images du passé et éditeur des Cahiers de la Société historique acadienne de 1979 à 1984. Un moment donné, il a aussi été membre du bureau de direction de l’Office national du film du Canada (ONF).2
