Informations biographiques

Gervais was a retired Department of Transport employee in Moncton while Joseph was a retired truck driver with Cape Bald Packers. They both attended Ste. Therese d'Avila Roman Catholic Church, Cap Pele, and both were members of Cap Pele Branch 91, Royal Canadian Legion.4

Après la mort de son père, Gervais, à l'age de 13 ans, abandonne l'école et prend la charge de ses frères et soeurs avec sa mère. Il s'en alla travailler dans les bois. Sa mère s'occupe de la ferme.

La maison qu'habite actuellement la veuve Lorraine se trouve toujours au Trois-Ruisseaux. La date de construction mène au année 1830. Le premier propriétaire fut Simon Léger & Isabelle Leblanc en 1830 - Fabien Léger en 1855 - 3ième - Siméon Léger en 1891 - 4ième - Théotime Léger en 1920, Imogène Léger, veuve en 1933 - 5ième - Gervais Léger en 1940, Lorraine, veuve en 1987.

Cette maison à charpente équarrie est actuellement habitée par la cinquième génération de Léger. Avant sa construction, la veuve Isabelle (Simon Léger) était établie à Shemogue, où son mari, mort en 1827, avait obtenu une concession en 1806. La plus vieille partie de la maison se trouvait à peu près à 1,200 pieds en arrière et fut halée sur le site actuel au dernier quart du 19e siècle. On aperçoit toujours les vestiges d'une maçonne au sous-sol. La rallonge provient d'une maison construite vers 1850, qui se trouvait sur le côté nord du chemin et qui fut halée vers les années 1890. En 1891, cette maison d'un étage comptait quatre pièces.

La grange fut construite pendant la décennie 1920. Ä l'intérieur de cette grange se trouve la charpente d'une ancienne grange datant du 19e siecle. Lors du recensement de 1861, la propriété de 30 acres, moitié défrichés, moitié en friche, était évaluée à 100 livres sterling. Le cheptel comprenait 2 vaches laitières, 1 boeuf de travail, 1 bête à cornes, 5 moutons et 5 cochons. Le propriétaire avait 100 livre de viande de porc, 100 livres de beurre et 12 livres de laine. Les acres en cultures avaient produit 2 tonnes et demie de foin sur 6 acres, 80 boisseaux de blé sur 5 acres, 12 d'orge sur un demi-acre, 60 d'avoine sur 4 acres, 12 de sarrasin sur 1 acre, 100 de patates sur 3 acres. Les instruments aratoires avaient une valeur de 15$ et il y avait du tissu et d'autres fabrications domestiques pour 25$. En fin de compte, la ferme de Fabien Léger était représentative des propriétés acadiennes du conton de Botsford en 1861. [Ref. Livret de famille préparé par Rolande Léger, 5 février 1989].
