Informations biographiques

Lloyd was a noted sportsman throughout the Maritime Provinces. In 1945 "Lefty" pitched the famed Springhill Fencebusters to the Maritime Senior Baseball Championship. Also that year, "Lefty" was on Major League Baseball's Boston Braves protected list. In the early 1960s he pitched the New Waterford Comets to the Maritime Intermediate Softball Championship. Lloyd was also an accomplished goal tender for local hockey teams. He worked for 29 years in the coal mines of Springhill, New Waterford and Glace Bay and for 19 years in the Federal Institution in Springhill. Lloyd was a member of Msg. Tom Buchanan's all male choir as well as a member of a local barbershop group; he was past president of the Springhill Centennial Golf course; an active member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 17, Springhill. In 1994, Lloyd received the Governor General's Certificate of Commendation for assisting in saving his daughter-in-law and two grandsons, Daniel and Phillip, from a house fire. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and storyteller.6,4
