    Raymond Leger -
Citizens of Moncton, as well as many friends in Shediac and elsewhere throughout the county and province, will be grieved to learn of the death of Mr. Raymond Leger, senior member of the drug firm of Leger Brothers. Mr. Leger was a good citizen of Moncton for a number of years. He entered heartily into the various activities of our civic life, taking a prominent part in various activities of our civic life, taking a prominent part in varoious movements having for their object the welfare and progress of the city, and could always be depended upon to lend his support to undertakings for the good of the community. He was a man of broad views and stood high in the esteem of all who knew him and admired him for his fine social qualities and his high sense of honor.

Active in Town and Community Affairs--Decendent of Prominent Acadian Family-- Funeral Thursday Shediac, Dec. 15-
A general feeling of sorrow pervaded the Seaside Town on the afternoon of this festive day when it became know that one of its most highly esteemed and progressive citizens, Raymond A. Leger, had passed away suddenly at his home following an illness of but a few hours. Although his health had not been of the best for the past year or so, nevertheless he had shown remarkable recuperation from a very serious illness and was evidently well on the way to recovery when stricken with startling swiftness, this forenoon and all that medical care could do for him proved unavailling, the end coming about 3:30 p.m., in the midst of his family and near relatives. The late Mr. Leger was a native of Shediac and celebrated hi 51st birthday anniversary on Friday last, December 21st. He was a son of the late Dr. Joseph A. Leger and Rosaline Landry, of Dorchester, daughter of Amand Landry, the first Acadian elected to the New Brunswick Legislature. Mr. Leger's mother was a sister of Sir Pierre Landry once a member of the Hanington-Landry Government at Fredericton, member of parliament for Kent County and later justice of the Supreme Court of New Brunswick. He received his education in Shediac schools and at St. Joseph's University, afterwards taking up pharmaceutical studies and after graduating as a druggist he was located in Chatham for a time before opening up ousiness in Moncton and Shediac in partnership with his brother George. He managed the Shediac store for several years before taking over direction of the business in Moncton and resided in the Hub for some years. He returned to Shediac in 1931 and up to the time of his illness conducted the store here. Active in Community Affairs During his years of residence here, he took a leading part in the public life of the town and community at large and served on the Town Council, first as an alderman and afterwards as mayor. In Moncton he likewise was active in all movements pertaining to the welfare of the city and served as president of the Board of Trade. He was a keen student, well versed on the public affairs of the day both nationally and internationally and above all was a Canadian of high stering worth. An engaging personality, he also possessed at all times a pleasantness of manner that endeared him to a wide circle of friends not only in his native province but beyond its borders who will mourn his passing with sincere regret. The late Mr. Leger also possessed many other admirable qualities and was charitable to the utmost degree. In his death, Shediac and the province of New Brunswick in general have lost a citizen of the highest type and a thorough gentleman. The deceased leaves to mourn, his wife, formerly Miss Helen McLaughlin, daughter of Michael McLaughlin, of Buctouche, and sister of A.P. Noel McLaughlin, prominent lawyer of Campbellton; also a young daughter, Raymonde; a sister, Miss Amanda Leger, Shediac, and a brother, George Leger, of Moncton, of the Leger Drug Company of Moncton and Shediac. The body is resting at the family home here and the funeral will be held from there on Thursday morning to St. Joseph's R.C. church here where solemn high mass of requiem will be celebrated at 9:30 o'clock by the rector, Rev. Father John J.V. Gaudet. Interment will afterwarde be made in the parish cemetery.
