L'Evangéline du 30 novembre 1887, nous indique qu'il était abonné au journal. Il a payé la somme de $1.00.

Anselme Marcel Leger was one of the last of the men who were in business in Shediac half a century ago and was one of the two or three whose property escaped destruction in the fire which destroyed the business district 50 years ago next October.2

Voici ce que relève la notice nécrologique de Clément Léger dans

l'Evangéline du 30 décembre 1957:

«Clément Léger, de Memramcook, homme d'affaires et personnalité acadienne bien connue au Nouveau Brunswick et ailleurs est décédé samedi-midi à l'Hôtel-Dieu de Moncton après une courte maladie. Il était âgé de 91 ans et 10 mois.

Fils de feus Marcel et Rosalie Léger de Memramcook et Shédiac, il avait épousé Catherine Gaudet, de Memramcook-ouest qui l'a précédé dans la tombe en 1945.

Il laisse dans le deuil deux fils et cinq filles. Ce sont Herman, à la maison paternelle, le Dr. Gérard C. Léger, de Moncton, Mme Sifroi LeBlanc (Clémentine) de Dieppe, Mme Dentiste E.P. Landry (Yvonne) de Moncton, Mlles Laurette et Adrienne à la maison, et Mlle Marie Léger, une institutrice à Dorchester Crossing. Il laisse aussi dix petits enfants et deux arrières-petits-enfants.

Les funérailles auront lieu mardi matin à 9 heures, à l'église St-Thomas de St-Joseph.

Le défunt avait mené une vie très active, s'intéressant aux affaire de sa province et de sa localité. En 1884, à l'âge de 18 ans, il s'était lancé en affaires à son propre compte. En 1891, il épousait Catherine Gaudet, institutrice, fille de feux Dominique et Osithe Gaudet, décédée depuis 12 ans.

En 1901, M. Léger obtenait la candidature du parti libéral dans le comté de Westmorland et était élu avec les Hon. C. W. Robinson, Frank Sweeney et A. B. Copp. Il fut député provincial jusqu'en 1920 alors qu'il se retirait de la politique. De 1915 à 1920, il était orateur adjoint de l'Assemblée législative.

M. Léger avait également été registraire des titres pour le titre de Westmorland de 1920 à 1949. De 1901 à 1935, il fut aussi un des directeurs de 'La société des Artisans', une mutuelle d'Assurance-vie dont le siège-social est à Montréal.».

In 1884, at the age of 18, he started a general store in Memramcook, a business in which he was active for the greater part of his life, until retirement several years ago. A staunch supporter of the Liberal party, Mr. Leger was elected on three occasions between 1903 and 1920, serving twice as a member of the government and once as a member of the opposition. From 1915 to 1920 he was deputy speaker of the House, before retiring from the field of provincial polictics. During his service as a member of the Legislative Assembly he, with the support of his coleagues, introduced a series of French books in the schools of this province, among them, the French " History of Canada" by Rev. P. Bourgeois, csc. Registar - He also served as a registrar of deeds for the county of Westmorland for 20 years, retiring from this post July 1, 1949. Mr. Leger was also a Justice of the Peace, a Syndic of the Roman Catholic Church for Memramcook and was for 34 years director for the Maritime provinces of La Societe des Artisens, which has its headquarters in Montreal.2
