KIRBY, CARL BENNETT -
Carl Kirby of Fredericton passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 following a courageous battle with cancer. He came into this world on September 4, 1932 in Stanley, NB and was the son of the late Mary Marguerite (Bennett) and Leo Kirby. Carl was also predeceased by his first wife Anna (Lichty) Kirby. He is survived by his wife, Flora; two daughters, Roberta Kirby (David Hawkins) and Trina (Neil) Rodgers; two sons, Kevin (Maritza) Kirby and Barry (Dawn) Kirby; two sisters, Doreen Leger and Leona McKay; one brother, Greg (Judy) Kirby; two step daughters, Debbie (Guy) Richard and Wanda (Paul) Rees; ten grandchildren; five step grandchildren; two great grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Patricia Peterson. He was fondly called "Pappy" by his grandchildren. Carl was proud to have served his country both in the armed forces and as a letter carrier for 28 years. He saw active duty in Korea during the Korean War. He was loved by those who he served on his mail routes for his constant smiles, quick wit, kind words and helpful deeds. He had a strong sense of duty. Carl provided a home for many foster children. He also volunteered at York Manor. Carl was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 and attended Marysville United Church. Carl loved gardening, joining his neighbors in conversation, listening to his police band radio and his feathered friends. Daily he would be seen chasing those darn squirrels from the bird feeders. He was not, however, a carpenter. He measured once, cut twice and sometimes had to glue it back on. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York St. on Friday, April 9th, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Marysville United Church on Saturday, April 10th at 2 pm with Rev. Nancy Ritchie officiating. Interment will take place in the spring. Donations in Carl's memory can be made to the Marysville United Church. Online condolences can be made at www.mcadamsfh.com, 458-9170.
