Raymond J. Leger
1928-2010
CHICOPEE - Raymond Joseph Leger, 81, of Chicopee, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2010. Born in Springfield and a long time Chicopee resident, he was the son of the late Eric and Josephine (Petitpas) Leger. Raymond retired in 1997 from Marcotte Ford in Holyoke after many years as a Fleet Manager and car salesman. He began his career in car sales in the early 60's at Automobile Sales Company, later moving to the former Kossick Ford, both of Springfield. Ray enjoyed weekly bingo games, playing the lottery, and working around the house. He loved to travel with his wife Cecile and was happiest when surrounded by his family. Raymond was a communicant of the former St. George Church of Chicopee. He served his country proudly during World War II as a Private First Class in the U. S. Marine Corps and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cecile M. (Croteau) Leger; his children, Susan Rusiecki Boucher and her husband Marc of South Hadley, John Leger and his wife Judy of Winsted, CT, Raymond Blanchette and his wife Lori of Westfield, Robert Leger of California, Lynn Carey and her husband Michael of Swanzey, NH, Lisa Gauthier and her husband Gary of Southampton; brothers Gerard Leger of East Longmeadow, Leo Leger of Maine; his daughter-in-law, Karolyn Blanchette of West Springfield; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Raymond was predeceased by his first wife Jeanne E. (Hendron) Leger, a son Richard Blanchette, a brother Clarence Leger, and a sister Mae Lavoie. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 1, 2010 at the Tylunas Funeral Home 159 Broadway, Chicopee at 9:30 a.m. Committal services with Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Agawam at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be held at the Tylunas Funeral Home on Sunday January 31, 2010 from 2 - 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Raymond's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305 (apdaparkinson.org).
