LÈGéRE, Joseph Alyre - 1933-2008. Joseph Alyre Légère of Tracadie-Sheila, N.B., passed away Friday, August 22, in Centre Hospitalier, Tracadie, surrounded by friends and family. Born in 1933, at Portage River, N.B., he was educated at St. Joseph's College in Bathurst, N.B. before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following 22 years of serving his country at home and abroad in Europe, Al retired from the military and returned to his New Brunswick home, working for Corrections Canada and ending his working days as the cultural animator for Carrefour Beausoleil in Miramichi. Al was devoted in life to faith, family and community. He was a parishioner of Èglise Notre Dame de la Sallette, Tracadie and previously Saint Michael's in Chatham, N.B. Always the advocate for people in need, he held various volunteer executive positions with the Francophone office of the Human Rights Association, International Peace and Development, and the Tracadie Family Crisis Centre. As well as being a third degree Knight of Columbus he was also an associate of the Sisters of Saint Joseph Hospitaliers. Passionate about his family, "Pépère" was a loving father, grandfather and husband having recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary this year. He will be missed but lovingly remembered by his wife, Thérèse (Basque); sons, Daniel (Cynthia), Memramcook; André (Doreen), Miramichi; Michel (Joanne), Amherst; grandchildren, Stéphanie, Michelle, Danielle, Marc, Jacob, Sarah, Mallory, Sam and Willie, and great-grandson, Austin. He is also survived by brother, Donat (Marina), Val D'Or, Que.; sister, Merilda, Campbellton, N.B., and niece and nephews, Martina, Gérald and Robert, whom he considered as sister and brothers. Visitation is Sunday, August 24th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass on Monday, August 25th. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Maison Funéraire Robichaud Ltee, Tracadie, N.B. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to charity of choice.
