LEGERE, James Hance -
82, died suddenly Tuesday, February 1, 2005, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in River Hebert, he was a son of the late Henry and Katherine (Blanche). Hance was a veteran of the Second World War, having served as Captain in the No. 1 Canadian Special Wwireless Unit, and saw duty in the South Pacific. During officer training in Montreal and Kingston, he met his future wife and lifelong companion, Rose Mary Murphy. After the war, he married and settled in Montreal. He graduated from McGill in Engineering Physics (Honours) and pursued a career in aviation, spanning from the Avro Arrow project through to his retirement as Chief - Communications at the International Civil Aviation Organization. He continued to consult for various international governments after his retirement until his return to Nova Scotia in 1995. Hance was predeceased by his wife, Rose; brother, George; sisters, Annie, Helen, Dorothy, Blanche, and Bernice. He is survived by sister, Marion (Deveau), Salmon River; brothers, Herbert, Westville; Harold, Kingston, Ont. He spent his final years in Glen Haven on St. Margaret's Bay with his family: son, James; daughter, Deborah, Calgary; daughter-in-law, Susan Whitehouse, and grandchildren, Arielle and Samuel. Hance's earthly remains have been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2 p.m. in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Tantallon. A reception will follow at 311 Indian Point Rd., Glen Haven. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Lung Association would be appreciated.
