Rose-Marie (Léger) Baker, 63, of Halifax, N. S. and formerly of Grand-Barachois passed away on Monday, April 14, 2003 at the Victoria General Hospital, Site of the QEII in Halifax, N.S. after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Moncton, August 11, 1940, she was the daughter of Marie-Rita Gaudet and the late Blair A. Léger. Over the years, she was involved in many community activities. She was instrumental in setting up a local recruitment program at Amherst Clinics which resulted in the highest averages of blood donors per capita in Nova Scotia. That program of reminding and actively recruiting blood donors was expanded and has been applied across Canada. She was Past President of the United Way of Amherst; Past President of the Amherst Toastmasters Club, as well as Area Governor for the Canadian side District 45; a former member of the Mayflower Handquilters Guild and the Bedford Stitchery Guild; a past member of the Alderney Guild of Needlearts and was the founding President of the District 10 East Neighbourhood Watch Program. She retired from the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency in August 2001. In the past 30 years, she was also employed at the Maritime Resource Management Service and at Aerovox Canada in Amherst; at the Sears Atlantic Call Centre, with Northwood Homecare; at the time when she became ill she was working part-time at the QEII. Left to mourn are her mother, MarieRita (Gaudet) Léger of Grand-Barachois; her two daugthers, Rénelle Léger of Halifax and Pierrette LégerMathieu and son-in-law Michael of Bedford and a granddaugther Blair; four brothers and sisters, Blair Merville (Elizabeth), Prescille Gould (Reginald) and Lucien (Diane) all of Grand-Barachois, Charles-Edouard (Suzanne) of Dieppe, Géraldine Léger and Ginette Bourque (Raymond) of Shediac, Guy of Moncton, Huguette Grenier of Saint-Hypolyte, QC. She was predeceased by her father Blair A. Léger; her paternal grandparents, Ambroise and Françoise (Cormier) Léger, and her maternal grandparents, François et Jacqueline (Arsenault) Gaudet. Cremation has taken place. A funeral Mass will be held at 10a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at St. Henri Roman Catholic Church in Grand-Barachois. Interment in the parish cemetery. In her memory, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society of N. B. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac (532-3297).
