He was a veteran of the Second World War, and member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10, Amherst. Following the war, he re-enlisted in the Armed Forces and was discharged in 1970. He was employed with Bendex Mobile Homes and later, with Enamel & Heating Co. He was a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church.2

    BURNS, Robert Frederick (Checker) -
    76, 29 Albion St., Amherst, died April 23, 1997, in Moncton City Hospital. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Walter and Catherine (Hughes) Burns. He was a veteran of the Second World War, and member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10, Amherst. Following the war, he re-enlisted in the Armed Forces and was discharged in 1970. He was employed with Bendex Mobile Homes and later, with Enamel & Heating Co. He was a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Theresa Legere; daughter, Irene (Mrs. Ed Chevarlie), Moncton, N.B.; sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Kent, Mrs. Hilda Fowler, Amherst; brother, Bill, Springhill Junction; a granddaughter. He was predeceased by sister, Irene Lutes; brothers, Jack, Harry. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m., parish prayers 3 p.m., legion service 7 p.m., all today in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral 10 a.m. Friday in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Rev. J.B. Christensen officiating. Burial later in spring in St. Charles/Nativity of Our Lady Cemetery. Donations to Canadian Diabetes Association.
