Gerard Legere

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Gerard “Butch” Legere, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 25.

He was born in Jay, on Oct. 29, 1923, the son of Arthur and Rose Pinette Legere and attended the schools of Jay. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. On May 4, 1946 he married Rita Ferland at the St. Rose of Lima Church. She died on Aug. 5, 1993.

He worked at International Paper Co., Otis Mill and later at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay. At the time of his retirement in 1985, he was supervisor of the pipe shop. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay.

On Aug. 23, 1997, he married Ann Pineau Callahan at the St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He was a lifemember of the V.F.W., Frank L. Mitchell Post 3335 of Jay, the Lane-Dube Amvets of Jay, the American Legion of Florida, and the Quarter Century Club of International Paper Co.

He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Richard Leach of Livermore, and Patricia and Harold Pike of Livermore; a son, Peter and his companion, Amy Lee of Livermore Falls; a sister, Mrs. Adele (Paul) LaBrecque of Berlin, N.H.; six stepdaughters, Joan, Barbara, Pat, Theresa, Elaine and Mary, one stepson, John; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; and 18 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two great-grandsons, Isaac and Trevor Haynes.
